This was a disappointing read, the only book of Gabaldon's, to be a let down for me.The author appeared to have lost the plot. DG has said she doesn't plot, but seems to write in vignettes as the creative spirit moves her, and out of this ether, an epic read usually transpires. Here the vignettes feel cobbled together, and the no-plot shows. Characters wandered around, and back again, or were living on repeat: another bad neighbour, another skirmish, another near death, another adoption.... On it went for pages, with no real spark. Flat. And then a cliffhanger...
And by then, I just didn't care.
