I was prepared to hate this show.
I'm a huge fan of the original Walker, with its cheesy action scenes and high flying kicks. No one out does Chuck Norris. And they still don't. But, this isn't that show... and it doesn't try to be. Which is exactly why I love it so far.
Is it slightly politically correct? Yes. It's the CW, so what do you expect? There's LGBTQ, racial issues, border issues, etc. But regardless of political leanings, those things are something we as a country are dealing with right now. But what I love about this show approaching these issues so far is that they make them relateable. And, as a conservative, I like that they make it so that someone of a different race/ethnicity is trying to change things for the better (Walker's partner as well as his boss). It's not anti-law enforcement, it's pro-law enforcement with the understanding that actual change has to come from within, from people trying to do right and make a difference.
Jared Padalecki brings a great emotional depth to the character as a guy dealing with the murder of his wife and trying to patch things with his teenage children. I don't see Supernatural with this (maybe because I never really got into that show), so his prior character "Sam" doesn't ruin it for me.
Is it perfect? No. I'm not a huge fan of the brother in terms of character acting... he's not all the believable. I have no issue whatsoever with his character being homosexual (because I have no issue with that in real life either!). My only gripe is his acting. There are other characters as well that need some work. But we're only 2 episodes in, and from what I've seen, there's hope that it will get better.
Plus, the soundtrack is awesome so far, and very fitting to the scenes. The show needs work, but I see a lot of potential. And I am looking forward to seeing where it goes.
