I like the show.
It's different from the Netflix iteration. 'Born Again' is a Crime Drama that is engaging and enjoyable. While the action scenes are below par and the story has logical flaws, I did like the show - until the finale.
To me, S1E9 is not the season finale, it's the first episode of season 2. It's got that MCU disease of setting up the next offering instead of finishing the one you're watching.
My rant is about this awful practice.
Are 9 episodes, exceeding 450 minutes of runtime, not enough to conclude a story? I am sure you can debate the purpose of this 'arc' but that itself is the problem. When I am investing ~20 hours of my time, I don't expect to be left frustrated with the incomplete ending. There was absolutely no conclusion to this season - just a set-up for the next season. This trend is feels wrong, feels like a lie.
It's just greed and lazy writing I feel. If you have faith in your product, you won't feel the need to trick viewers. The entire premise of mid-credit and post-credit scenes was to create excitement for the next chapter and that was a win-win for all. Audience would get a complete story, in under 2 hours, and as a bonus, they'd watch clips of what's to come. For the studios, it was great hype and marketing for months or years. Now, they just use every trick - reserve the conclusion, add a cliffhanger, and also add a post-credit scene. It's like the entire last episode is a click-bait. Awful!
