More Lovecraftian than "Lovecraftian games". One of Lovecraft's central tropes is that of an eldritch abomination - an entity so vastly powerful and otherworldly that it warps existence just by being, driving people to insanity, rewriting the laws of physics, so impossibly multi-facetted that its impossible to comprehend or recognize - Call of the Sea doesn't do the one mistake "Lovecraftian games" do, it doesn't ever reveal the big bad. In fact, the bag bad is only tangential to the story proper.
That out of the way, the visuals are simple and good, the story is personal and well crafted, it actually more than one ending (one of which is 'good'), the puzzles can be slightly obtuse, an interesting world. The only "major gripe" would be how slow the player character moves, but apart from that, unless you hate puzzles and aren't even slightly interested in the story by all means, give this game a go.
