It manages to find something for every character to do, and even wrangle some real emotion out of its dynamics, all while depicting the cutthroat reality of capitalist art. And yet it undercuts all of that with an unending and unrelated set of jukebox songs, drowning out everything in cynical pandering. The major plotline is given over to securing rights to an older song, and one one wonders if that comes from writing this very film. It all stinks of legalese and cross promotion. Especially since most of the songs don’t fit their scenes well at all. The Planet of War has…Sky Full of Stars? That has nothing to do with war!!! At least get Violet Hill or something!
“Out of this World” was supposed to be something new and fresh, in universe. But it features no original songs, and not even much downtime at all without some recent pop hit thumping you in the skull. It’s all derivative, capitalist dreck, and so blatantly.
