I think hollow knight is an 9/10. If I’m being more biased it’s a 15/10 amazing game by far my favorite. I think the only big issue with hollow knight is it’s bad replayability. I think this is partly due to its combat system. It hardly changes throughout the game which I both a good thing and a bad thing. This makes it so mastery of this skill is incredibly rewarding. It allows you to fully adapt and become incredibly comfortable with your weapon which allows for fluid movement which is incredibly satisfying. The game balances this power you gain by having amazing boss fights that almost always use a unique style. Each boss is different which leads to you having to once again adapt to a different style. The problem is that you become a bit too comfortable with the wepon and other ways to use it. This means that on any replays you will just be to good making the game easy and boring. Luckily the game makes up for most of it with many positives. It’s beautiful art style. It’s method of getting people to know the world. It’s hard to explain but basically what I mean is you are not given a full map. Heck to even see where you are you need to use one of the precious charm notches. This forces players to make a stronger mental image of the world which just further immerses you. It’s large sprawling world and many secrets make the game feel more real and once again immersive. One thing I think is largely under appreciated is its no clear objective. Throughout the game you don’t have people saying “oh go here for this” “oh this is how you beat the game”. It makes the games focus more so on exploration. You do eventually get an objective sure but I feel as though it’s far enough into the game that your already invested in exploration and stuff. It really gives it the feeling of exploring another world. As I mentioned earlier the boss fights are well put together as well as it’s story and lore.
