As a fan of Willow since I first saw it as a kid in 1996, I had high expectations for the show. So far, the quality is definitely there. The daring action and dark tone of the series picks up right away in the first episode as Tir Asleen is invaded by evil and a battle ensues. In what seems to mirror Lord of the Rings, a discussion takes place, and a rag-tag "fellowship" is chosen to go out and find Willow. The back story and flashbacks to the original movie are my favorite parts. Willow seems a bit tired (but wiser) and he mirrors the actions of the previous High Aldwin from the original movie with the "choosing of the finger". The new characters and the old characters seem to fit together well, especially Thraxus Boorman played by Amar Chadha-Patel. My only hope is that they somehow bring back Madmartigan, although I understand it is a low possibility given Val Kilmer's cancer and COVID diagnosis. Maybe there's hope for a cameo in Season 2?? I really hope they continue to focus on Princess Sorsha as I love her fight and tenacity and her interactions with Willow. Altogether, the series is a perfect nostalgia trip for old fans, and I can't wait for more episodes!
