I feel like the advertising for this film really did a poor job generating interest and representing how amazing it actually is. Actually watching it, I was blown away by how beautiful it was. The story is so heartfelt. I definitely cried. I absolutely love this film.

One of my favourite books! Explores themes of growth and coming of age, family, and friendship. In my opinion, this is a great one for kids and adults. This book is structured like an anthology, each chapter a smaller story, but accumulates to a final chapter that ties it all together. This makes it very easy to enjoy then pause, then pick it up later without feeling disoriented. Filled with charming characters and fun adventures. Reading this as an adult made me remember so many things from my own childhood and filled up my chest with a build up of happy and sad feelings. I absolutely adore this book!

I love this movie. All the characters were incredibly charming. The animation was spectacular. I really enjoy the new Pixar look, with the goofy smiles and huge teeth. This is such a wonderful coming of age with strong family and friendship values. All the relationships were genuine and complex. The biggest villains in this film acted out of love, which was wonderful to see explored. Mei’s struggles are incredibly real and made me feel understood. I was also living in Toronto with my Chinese family in 2002. It was kind of funny to see the little things like the birthday cake Timbits at breakfast. I’d love to see more films like this in the future!
