I found this movie shallow and pathetic. The only redeeming feature was the grandeur of the scenery which should have been mirrored by the grandeur of the plot and character development but was not. The movie was extremely predictable and it felt very low budget. Dialogue was rare and when it happened it was trying too hard to be minimalistic. It was clear to me that no one producing this had ever experienced survival skills in the wilderness. On top of this there were a lot of inconsistencies. If town was so close - close enough to walk to in a day as we find out later in the movie - why not walk down the road when she ran out of food on one of the nicer days? Use snowshoes or build a sled. Bears usually hibernate in the winter by the way. Oh yes and a random gun that’s been sitting around for years isn’t going to work easily unless fixed up. I was never connected to the main character. She felt selfish and ungrateful if not downright stupid. There was a lack of authenticity and depth in the characters - as I said - trying too hard to be mountain people when they were Hollywood people trying to look rugged and into nature. So obvious!! If I hadn’t paid to watch this annoying film strumming its monotonous music score in perpetuity and showcasing mountain scenes perhaps to obliterate the obvious lack of traction and substance at the core I would have quit watching after 20 mins.
