I found this limited series an experience as much as a great watch.
The cast, made up of seasoned knowns & some unknowns (to me), made me invest in them & feel the trauma they experienced - I genuinely laughed & got upset with them. That I could have wanted more screen time for some of the side characters is not a gripe, it’s just they came across as very interesting & I wanted even more of them.
The last episode did feel rushed, and I guess it’s that balance of transferring a book to screen, keeping it flowing whilst doing it justice & not making it feel bloated at the same time. So again, like the characters, it left me wanting more & I see that as a good thing.
The resilience of kids shouldn’t be taken for granted & although the show is set mid to late 1980’s, the themes it presents are all to relevant in 2024.
One of the best series on Netflix, not a lot of fanfare around it compared to other big budget shows, but the fact whenever I mention it to others as a must watch, those that have already seen it talk about it positively.
Go watch this with an open mind & it will open it further.
