I’m a huge fan of The Weeknd and have been since before the fame so I was really hoping this show would live up to my expectations and the hype that was created by so many people before it ever even aired but that wasn’t the case here. The show starts off with so much unnecessary nudity, cursing, and over the top sex scenes. I completely understand they were trying to tell a story about a young woman tangled up in the dark, twisted, manipulative, and abusive world of fame and the music industry. She’s literally looked and treated like a piece of meat throughout the whole series. I believe in female empowerment and being in control of one’s sexuality BUT the way she let people use her and even kinda used herself was not cool. I think the story could have been told in a way less graphic way that still got the point across and explored all of the topics they lightly touched on: the dark side of the music industry/fame, child abuse/kids being seen as a paycheck, female sexuality, grooming, abuse etc. After watching all of the episodes and giving it time to marinate in my mind I just was not impressed and I’ll be ok if I never see Lily Rose Depp’s butt cheeks or breasts again. I did rate it 3 ⭐️ because the music throughout each episode FREAKIN SLAPS!!! There’s not 1 bad song in the entire season. It’s sexy/sultry but also has good lyrics, great beats, and The Weeknd and Depp’s voices actually compliment each others quite well. Maybe they should just make an album together and include music videos instead of a show that’s all over the place and seems like it was written by horny teenage boys and pimps lol. Maybe if there’s a season 2 things will be better?? 🥴 I’m no real critic though, this is all just my opinion, but if I wanted to just watch soft core porn with great music I could do that and I wouldn’t have to be subscribed to HBO MAX to do it!
