I have some misgivings about this film. On the one hand I recognise that the issues it explores are important, and that the acting is of a high quality. On the other hand, the many complaints about the film’s length are not insignificant. It is difficult to understand why the director could not restrict himself to producing a film of less than two hours’ duration. There is no merit in being discursive for its own sake. Did the film’s budget not provide for an editor?
