Not for the faint-hearted, requires several listenings, even for extreme metal-savvy people… But once you’ve passed any possible initial disorientation or provided you can overcome sheer visceral rejection of this unsettling form of "free metal" just like there’s a "free jazz", you’re in for a thrilling - yet still uneasy - experiment. This is to heavy metal what the second Viennese School was to classical music or what Ornette Coleman, late Coltrane were to jazz. If the metal scene is so musically diverse nowadays you owe it to bands like Gorguts and albums like this one.
