Book was a page turner, but I question both the premise and the ending.
If the main character had been older than 12 when she and her mother had managed to escape their dreadful past, I would have found all the drama more believable. I also found the ending both unsatisfying and ridiculous. I so wanted her to expose the evil man downstairs, even if it meant finally exposing her own identity.
I know there is a lot of controversy about this book supposedly trivializing the Holocaust and creating a sympathetic character who was complicit in its horrors, but I don’t agree with that. How complicit could a child have been, even if her father was a monster?
