Was a little bit excited to bring back some of my childhood through the Barbie movie. Only to discover this was absolutely one of the worst movies I've seen in a very long time. Barbie to me was about a young woman who is independent powerful self-sufficient professional and had great friends and great clothes. As a young lady I loved how Mattel brought out Barbies who were not just blonde but we're redheads and brunettes as well and also women of color. And then they brought out Ken in different capacities as well. Barbie and her friends and Ken we're supposed to be the symbol of how everybody respected each other gone along and didn't hold each other back from being what they want it to be with diversity.
This movie in my opinion was complete trash, it didn't represent any of that. In fact it did the opposite for me they tried to show that Barbie and can didn't live harmoniously but that can was being suppressed and kind of an oaf. In the quote unquote real world we saw again a board of men with no female opinion behind the world of Barbie. The costumes were absolutely ridiculous and none of the outfits I remember available for Barbie or Ken. Her dream house was not the one that I remember with the elevator going down the side and her Corvette look like a toy and not like the pink Corvette that she had. With its sexual innuendos this movie was clearly not made for little girls to enjoy but for us women who still have the little girl within us.
Again disappointing this was an opportunity for them to make a live action Barbie movie which could have united little girls young ladies and women together with the understanding that are today but adding in lessons to be learned such as how social media is destroying images and how men and women are equally balanced and value each other
Thanks for ruining my childhood and vision of what Barbie was for me
