Excellent lower budget, performance driven supernatural thriller. We focus on a small island community that has spent the last 10 years isolated from mainland Canada after finding a child with inexplicable powers. The movie is about the effects of isolation, group think and the power that inexplicable events have to shape an individual or society.
Think Midnight Mass social order breakdowns with an almost The Apostle-esque cult situation. The King Tide takes cues from those sorts of stories, but does away with monsters, unrealistic levels of violence or inexplicably rapid societal collapse. It isn't "scary" because there is something hiding in the dark, it is scary because everything is happening in the light, and its people just like you doing it. Do you give in to your human fears and commit heinous acts to keep what you have but didn't earn, or are you a person who understands the difference between right and wrong?
The people complaining about slow pacing or getting bored should probably just buy a ticket to the latest marvel movie or any one of the multi billion dollar vapid studio productions that get slopped onto the market for people with more drool on their chin than sense in their head. What they aren't saying is that they wanted another generic jump scare fiesta and got mad when they had to think more than not at all about a plot instead of being entertained by a series of loud noises and flashing lights like a toddler laughing at jingling keys.
If you read the negative reviews and get the feeling that those people aren't really too bright, you'll like this. If you read my review and think I sound pretentious, you won't like this, I feel bad for your family, and I bet you talk in movie theaters. Enjoy your popcorn and 100 oz soda with the other consumobots and let people with functioning brains review anything with more depth than Marvel Movie 97 and a Half.
