The so called South African accents were absolutely appalling for a start. To say that Daniel Radcliffe is unimpressive in his role is an understatement. He’s simply not a good actor although portraying Tim Jenkin should have suited his bland personality. Jenkin and Lee were among many young white progressive students who were staging anti apartheid protests and demonstrations at universities around the country. The exaggerated speech at the trial was an indication of what was to be expected and delivered by the bland and exaggerated portrayal of the prison itself. This movie is not an intellectual account of historical and important anti apartheid politics but just another of many accounts of prison break dramas and mediocre one at that.
