For me, it was a 4 1/2 out of 5 stars movie. I didn’t see the original 62 version yet, so my comments have nothing to do with any comparison whatsoever. It’s a damn good movie on many levels and kept me immersed, not an easy thing to do. Denzel was great, as was Voit and the other actors held their own. I thought perhaps Streep was a bit over the top at times, but then again so was the character she portrayed. We are probably closer to the technology used in this plot today (2023) than in 2004 which is just crazy to me. Corruption is rampant, “deep state” is running the show, and in the end it’s about power and money. The Manchurian Candidate has a little of everything, the things that make you go…hmmm. It might not be for everyone, but if you’re ok with power, greed, corruption, brain washing, backstabbing, politics, politicians, covert military operations/experiments at the expense of unsuspecting soldiers, then you’re probably going to like it. Whether or not 1962 w/Frank Sinatra was better, I have no idea yet.
