I like his books and writing chops but this one was odd .. His character and story development was fine til he let himself go bonkers on the horrors of the Pacific theater of WWll .. And the Bataan Death March and it was as if he put a way too long history lesson in the middle of his book .. instead of a more brief backstory on Pete Bannings scars of war and we felt like the story line was gone.
