Having read and enjoyed Normal People, with the added aid of the TV series, I was ready to be fascinated, engaged, involved and carried by the plot and the characters. I was to a point...but inconsistently and somewhat distractedly. So I found the "official" reviews included with the paperback rather overrated this novel. A lot of angst, soul searching and rather disconnected sex scenes. Some good insights into the inner beings within the characters, their situations and backgrounds but I'm feeling a little bemused and keep asking myself "was it worth it?" Maybe I'm missing something, maybe time will tell. Maybe not. I hope Sally Rooney writes more novels...but I expect more than this from her.
