Plot ridiculous. Do the writers actually understand anything about this period other than heaving bosoms? A faux romance with a duke seemingly attracts more marriage offers for a woman.. yet they also claim a womanโs reputation needs to be pure so.. then this commoner expects to receive an offer of marriage from a Prussian prince? Haha
If the producers really wanted to be more inclusive of race in historical drama, they should start investing in stories from other cultures rather then simply regurgitating tired old regency fluff and adapting their โinclusiveโ cast to fit. Bridgerton attempts to convince us you can maintain the strict sexism and classism of the Regency era but without the racism. Well thatโs laughable bc the fact is that half the elite in the show would have built their exorbitant wealth off the backs of slaves working in plantations. Racism, like sexism and classism, existed back then for a very good reason. You canโt drop one but still keep the other two for entertainment value. And yes I am also sick of only seeing white actorโs In historical dramas. I would much rather watch a dramatisation of a historical romance set in the time of the Royal family of Ghana or a court intrigue set in Imperial China 600 years ago. Then it is appropriately cast and I donโt have to suspend all belief in reality when a blonde white woman shows up as their main character bc you know..โinclusionโ.
