Watched it the first time, expecting... I don't know - Bruce 1975? Maybe that's reflective of my own life. Always looking back. Watching it again, I see a man just a little older than me, but much further along in his journey. I see a man coming to terms with his own mortality, yet still full of that vitality, that spark that always made Bruce a man of the people. In the case of Western Stars, the characters are in many ways like the Boss himself - older and wiser, yet still themselves. Some on the same path they carved out as young men. Others trying to get off that path, knowing that the path they were on only leads to destruction. I love seeing the 70-year-old Bruce reflecting the aging working man. I strongly disagree with the comment about him losing touch with those men. In fact, he's closer than ever to those men, their stories, their truths, and the lies they told themselves. I love hearing him pay homage to the man he was, and seeing the evidence of him being the man he's become. Bruce will always be the American poet, telling our story one character at a time. Watch and learn, young men. If you're lucky, you'll be there someday yourselves. I hope one day I'll be there too.
