This is most due to Sandra Bullock, and a little because of Sylvester Stallone’s honest endeavors.
But Bullock is in a world-class honesty level by herself, here. This movie is a complete topsy turvy mess. But it tries to project itself … from the 1970’s to only seven years longer into the future than ours. 2032. With everything of the 20th century gone. All supposed violence. They don’t ever touch. They wave palms when saying hello. And where sexual gratification helmets for sex. They are fined when cursing even a damn, heck, or jesus at the works. And get receipts to prove how much they owe. The cops don’t know how to fight. So they have to call back a bruiser, Spartan, Stallone, to catch a violent aggressor.
It is Sandra Bullock who has the talented ability to make us believe all this is real. Her (always) incomparable humanity is evident, with the most hard pressed smile. She is able, somehow, to span the centuries. Leave it to beautiful Bullock. She is an exquisitely talented woman and actress. I know. I am a superbly talented actor.
