It was my first time reading Murakami. I picked this book with lot of expectations since it’s such a talked about book . But my entire reading experience was just bland and boring. The characters never truly mature. There are almost 100 pages between chapter 5 and 6 with same repetitive narrative. I understand the book was written in 60s so Cigarettes and alcohol is glamorised , but the monotonous and unnecessary mention of them every now and then gets on your skin and make your eyes roll. I think the book was such a mega hit back then, because of its explicit depiction of sex. Description of nature and landscape is vivid and interesting . If you haven’t read it, believe me there are better books out there.
