This movie is a perfect example of a director run amok. The sound and visuals were fine, but there is enough story for about half the running time. Both myself and my friend who were both filmmakers came out of the movie shaking our heads. I asked what was your first impression and he said “long”. I could have cut more than an hour from the film without losing any of the story. Most of the time was spent on shots and scenes that did not carry the movie forward. I’ve looked at a list of Villeneuve’s films and all of them are short on story and long on pretension. Denis, I say this with good intentions, get yourself a producer who will rein you in. Your eye is good but you don’t know how to tell a story.
