#tldr From a strictly visual standpoint, he's a top-notch dude. Thematically, I'm sympathetic to the type of terror he's going for. When it gets bundled with his franken-narrative style, something just doesn't hit home for me #moviereview I used to be a film student. I love film, always have, always will. And those of you that know me, know that I try to give the benefit of the doubt to things that I think I might not like. After this directors first outing with hereditary, I thought I would give him a second chance. This was a better movie, it had a lot of interesting ideas, a lot of horror spin on a hodgepodge of really cool cultural ideas. It was visually beautiful, and I am super sympathetic to the themes in the movie. But it just didn't coalesce for me. My issue with hereditary was that it felt like two distinct movies and then the ending of paranormal activity 3 thrown in for good measure, which fundamentally ruined the buy-in in the film's setup for me. With this movie, it just feels like it never gels into a complete story. I don't think I'm a fan of this guy's movies #Strike2IsEnoughForYou.
