Really don't understand the negative reviews. Is it just incels mad about a female led show with Matt Smith or something I'm missing? It's obvious this shows primary demographic is women but I still enjoyed it. It's funny, looks nice and has some interesting commentary on mental health, which is relevant whether you are male, female or whatever.

I'm not going to lie, I watched season one and thought what's all the fuss about? Fortunately I persevered. The show starts to develop during the third season with more character development and overarching story arcs. It really hits it's stride by the 4th season. It is a good show but takes a while to get going. However, I wouldn't recommend skipping the first couple of seasons as the later ones to build on plot points raised during the earlier seasons.

Good but with some pacing issue. The production values are high and the film looks very good with great performances from the cast. My only complaint is it feels a little dragged out at times and I think they could have told the exact same story in a two hour film without losing anything.

As a life long Trekkie, I really didn't know what to expect but I ended up really enjoying this and binged it in an evening. While the humour leans more towards the dark side and it has that "Cal Arts" look, it's nowhere near as crass or cynical as Rick and Morty, and the comparisons are superficial at best. I get this show will not be everyone's cup of tea, but I feel the negative reviews are exaggerated, especially the ones along the lines of "this isn't Star Trek". While the tone is different, nothing in the series contradicts anything in the Trek universe. The films have a very different tone to the series but are still regarded as welcome parts of the Star Trek franchise. I hope this series does well as I'd like to see more. Please give it a try yourself and don't be out off by angry toxic fanboys.

Nowhere near as bad as it's made out to be. Is it a great film? Absolutely not. Is it bad? No. It's a very mediocre comedy but did make me genuinely laugh a few times. It would have been better if some of the horror elements had been retained rather than it be a straight up comedy and the ending could have been way better (everything got resolved a little too easily).

Starts of so well but then loses steam just over the half way mark. The first half of the movie is genuinely tense. It does what a good horror movie should: rely on slow burning tension and not showing you anything concrete, letting your imagination fill in the blanks. However, about half way through, there is a sudden genre shift. The movie turns into a drama, and not a good one at that (see Tales From the Loop for good sci fi drama). The "twist" is neither cleaver or profound and doesn't really make sense. Not in a terrifyingly mysterious or open to interpretation way, but in a "why would these beings come so far to get involved in this? That's so dumb" way. We get a half assed "they are aliens so we'll never understand their motives" explanation from one of the characters but it just comes across as lazy writing. I think this film is a good argument for why no one person should be both the writer, director and editor of a movie. There needs to be an impartial third party to say "this is dumb" or "how about this instead". TLDR: great cinematography, music and acting and excellent tension in the first half of the film but let down by a poor final act and contrived "twist".
