not up to my expectations of the film, if you read the book first you probably will not like the film.
0/10
the characters were one-dimensional and did not have the raw emotion that the book had, due to major issues of pacing throughout the storyline. (to clarify, some moments could have evoked emotion but the execution was awful.)
characters had multiple changes just for the sake of it being a normal 90min movie. for example, we did not at all get to delve into most of jack will's character, with his character, motivations etc. we didn't get more than a pretty picture of the whole frame, which put a bad taste in my mouth considering how i read the book before watching, and how much i love his character (just my opinion, he's great) as well as them cutting out important plot points like summer's whole pov, with there only being 2 in the text instead of the original number.
this movie could've had potential if they had stuck to the plot, for example, by not taking out auggie's hearing aids, a very important part of the book. this was not a smart idea considering how much they mattered to him.
another thing that wasn't good about this film was the pacing, as i said before. moments from the text bled together on the movie screen, which didnt make sense. one thing that suffered from this decision was justin and olivia's relationship.
in the movie, they end going through a total of about 15 minutes of character bonding, which seemed unorganic when the movie ended
and the movie declared them in love. it seemed as if the film was hyperfixated on their relationship, as opposed to other characters.
to shorten my review (that of which may be adjacent to a rant), wonder was an underwhelming film that delivered absolutely nothing to my day, and was a waste of $20 million usd, just read the book.
