I was absolutely blown away by episode 5 when the therapist helps Joy see meaningful connections between her past trauma and her current behaviour. It was so powerful as it painfully resembled what would happen in a real therapy session. These breakthroughs can happen frequently to an individual who is working with a skilled therapist and can be essential for growth and development. Although for Joy, her life outside continued to fall apart after that therapy session, we could see that she became stronger in her sense of self and was able to let herself feel what she had been avoiding so from that point she acted with awareness, love and compassion towards not only herself, her family and her own clients. The shift or reframing we see Joy have at the end of this episode is the direct result of the hard work done in the therapy session and at large is the meaningful process of therapy.
