Queen of Tears is a captivating series that I recently started watching after a long hiatus. Having completed the first 10 episodes, I eagerly await the rest. My last K-drama experience was with Business Proposal, which I loved it for simple romance. However, as a devoted fan of Bae Suzy, I gave Doona a chance, though it left me feeling indifferent.
The main cast of Queen of Tears, portrayed by Kim Soo-hyun and Kim Ji-won, exudes beauty and chemistry. What sets this drama apart is that it begins with the protagonists already married. Their love story unfolds against the backdrop of an existing relationship, which adds depth and authenticity. The romantic and touching scenes are so compelling that you’ll want to revisit them.
Baek Hyun-woo, played by Kim Soo-hyun, faces a dilemma. He yearns for a divorce, finding it increasingly challenging to live in his in-laws’ house. However, fate intervenes when he learns about Hong Hae-in’s (Kim Ji-won) health problem. Suddenly, his desire for divorce clashes with the possibility of inheriting her assets. As the drama unfolds, Hyun-woo’s feelings oscillate—initially feigned, then genuine. Meanwhile, Hae-in’s unwavering love for him remains constant; she never sought separation.
The chemistry between the leads is lovely. Kim Soo-hyun injects humor as the ordinary man navigating Hae-in’s obscenely rich and morally complex family. In contrast, Kim Ji-won masterfully balances calm and deception, revealing an insecure woman bursting with love but unsure how to express it. Their emotional struggle resonates, even as they maintain walls between them.
