Love James McCoy but errrr wouldnโt say itโs brilliant acting. I watched this only because he was in it and according to my personal opinions he did not portray the alters well enough, especially for an actor as brilliant as he is. Hedwig was not a nine year old but rather an adult being a nine year old, with a lot of adult only ways of talking, doing facial expressions and body gestures. I understand that itโs very very challenging to portray but James should have been able to do a better job than allowing some of his very personal adult movements into the character.
He thinks that being truthful is not the mindset that he finds the most useful when it comes to acting, and rather he focuses on the impression done on the audience. This is his unique and powerful methodology and I think, perhaps, resulted in him acting out the creepiness very successfully, but also in the obvious pretentiousness of the alters. In the case of DID, Hedwig should really be the carefree little boy, not a boy who makes you feel that he is hiding and afraid of something, and that the โboynessโ is carelessly forced into this adult body.
Also as for the film itโs not at all an accurate representation of DID and the intention of making it look like something monstrous and demonic is quite disrespectful to the concerned community.
However what bothers me the most is still Jamesโs acting and I would say Iโm so disappointed that I dare not ever watch this again.
