I left the cinema feeling.. unsatisfied.
Note: i've never read the Manga so i went in blind, not knowing how the story goes. Also, this review contains spoilers
Fight scenes were amazing with beautiful animations and amazing sound design. As usual, okay.
My gripe with the film is, it should've been a series instead of a movie.
there's simply too many characters, all over the place making it feel so messy and not one cohesive story. Also, I know this is sort of normal in anime, but the amount of inner monologue and how they're just stating the obvious feels like an insult to my intelligence. Didn't need them in movie format.
The pacing was so... Weird. The climax with Tanjiro and Akaza 👌🏻 then we went for a huge dive with the backstory of Akaza, and then back up again with fight scenes and then back down with more Akaza backstory. I felt like it would've been better if they told the whole story of Akaza (slight shorter please) and then second phase of the battle, and end.
Also, why should I care about Akaza? Why did it feel like Akaza was a more important character than Shinobu? Why was her backstory and *spoiler* death felt meaningless? Maybe it'll explain more in the second movie, but, personally, I didn't feel like we needed such a deep backstory for Akaza. Yeah he killed Rengoku (who mind you, the gang had only met in the mugen train arc and let's be real, why are they so attached to him?), but Shinobu has been an important character since the first season.
Overall, still a fan, loved the animation and sound design but that's about it. the pacing was so damn weird it wss fast but slow but fast but draggy as hell, and we didn't need such a deep Akaza story, it was too damn long. Wouldn't recommend to watch this in the cinema.
Might even learn how go edit videos so that i can improve the pacing
