So Netflix's response to all of the heat they're getting from hosting this movie is to change the "inappropriate artwork" used in publicizing the movie. Interesting, since the INAPPROPRIATE PICTURES used are screenshots from the movie, based on what can be viewed from the trailer. What is being billed as "a teen coming of age" film is nothing short of soft porn for pedophiles. And since when are 11-YEAR-OLD girls considered teens coming of age? Perhaps in France. France obviously has a completely different set of moral values. Back in medieval times, a young girl was not considered to be "coming of age" until they had experienced menarche which then occurred at about 17 years of age. This has lowered over the centuries to girls aged 10 - 16 due to industrialization and other complicated contributing factors, but this in no way makes it okay to sexualize young 11-year-old girls. How this won an award from Sundance is beyond me. Just viewing the trailer is enough to offend any reasonable person. What is further interesting about Netflix's position on this is that despite it's being a film about young 11-year-old girls, it is not available on Netflix Kids. So, SHAME on everyone connected with this film, SHAME on Sundance, and SHAME on the parents of these children who thought it was okay to make strippers out of there young daughters. This is a new low, but considering the amount of child trafficking for sexual exploitation that is going on these days, not unexpected. I'm going to go and throw up now and wash my eyeballs out with soap.

So, unfortunately we were unable to watch the whole movie but what we did see of it was, well, a bit underwhelming compared to the first Avatar movie. Perhaps it was the decision to jump right into the action thus making it a display of how much cgi action can be crammed into a 3 hour and 12 min movie. What ultimately drove us out of the theater however, was the decision to film at 48 fps. The result is the "soap opera affect" or like turning on motion-smoothing on your HD TV. Now HFR is great for video games, but it is just lost on a cinematic production. You get great resolution but the cgi looks like cgi especially when combined with live actors. It just looses that movie feel that we are all used to and it can be argued that we don't want it to be that smooth. After all, for most of us, real life action isn't that smooth, is it.

Avatar: The Way of Water

As a third-generation Jehovah's Witness (formerly), this very revealing and telling book by Raymond Franz is a must-read for anyone who desires an accurate and truthful inside look at the organization behind the religion. I make this statement based on my own personal experience and the personal experiences of others who were open enough to share. My father, beginning in 1960, was a Congregation Overseer, then Elder, and additionally, at the time of his death, a Circuit Overseer. As such and without intention on his part, I was privy, not only to his personal experiences but also the similar experiences of others within the organization including R. Franz and other Bethelites. Despite his grief over the changes and events within the organization as R. Franz describes, my father maintained his "wait on Jehovah" attitude for the "errors of men" to be corrected to his death. Unfortunately, he did not live long enough to realize this hope having died prematurely as a result of his firmly holding to the governing body's stance on blood transfusions. Now some 33 years hence, things remain unchanged. This book really should be read by all Jehovah's Witnesses but then, being that R. Franz was labeled an "apostate", it is highly unlikely that any will. My thanks go out posthumously to my brother Raymond for his efforts to light the way to truth.
