The very fact that the story had such a widespread emotional impact that thousands of people have taken to review bombing the game simply because they were upset by a plot point tells us that Naughty Dog did a stellar job. Sure, the plot is surprising and at points hard to digest, but that is what makes it such a fantastic story. Plot armour does not belong in a post-apocalyptic world.
