Interstellar in my opinion is one of the best (if not THE best) movies ever made. Directed by Cristopher Nolan and starring Matthew McConaughey as the main character (Cooper) who is an engineer and also a dad. The most important side characters are Anne Hathaway who is Brand, the daughter of a scientist at NASA (Professor Brand also Michael Caine). The movie also stars Coopers daughter Murph who goes from Mackenzie Foy to Jessica Chastain and then finally to Ellen Burstyn. Then there is his son Tom who goes from a teenage Timothee Chalamet to a middle aged Casey Affleck. Theres also the only funny element in this movie Dr. Mann (Matt Damon) starring as a first innocent but evil character who just wants to go back home. I think that it does have a lot of similarities to other movies like 2001: A space odyssey hence the rotten tomatoes rating of 73%. However there are a few different things in this movie, my favorite of which is the fact that there is no real villain all they are fighting for is time. I don't count Dr. Mann as a villain because he never really did much, for me he was just a breather from al the rest of the movie. The amazing music accompanied by the great acting and captivating plot makes me rate this movie at a podium winning 9.5.
Reasons for taking away points: Overall it's an exiting movie but it could have been just a bit shorter 2 hours 30 (compared to 2 hours 49) for example, so for that I am removing 0.75 from the score. Next I think that a decent amount of ideas were copied from older movies as I said in line 5, so for that I'm Removing 2.5. Finally I just think that the idea of falling into a black hole is a little to far fetched compared to the rest of the movie, I am taking away only 1.75 for that because of the maybe saddest scene in the movie where he sees himself and his daughter in earth time at least 30 years back trough the bookshelf because then it all finally starts making sense.
IMDB Score: 8.7 (#22)
