I knew there was a reason I didn’t like this movie and after reading the book I understand why. They completely glossed over any of the depth the characters and plot possessed with pretty cgi. It was really disappointing as none of the emotion from the book translated. I get that it was supposed to be an adaptation of the musical but if the musical follows the same plot points I would expect to be equally disappointed. The book adds so many layers to Oz that you wouldn’t even begin to imagine would be going on in the background of the Wizard of Oz but Gregory Maguire made it believable. The film is, in my opinion the equivalent of a wattpad fan fic while the book has the essence of a true prequel especially if you’ve read the Wizard of Oz and aren’t just comparing the movies.
