Saw this last night, it''s not a documentary perse' there is no voice over saying on this day in August 1913. It uses voice overs from interviews of surviving WWI veterans in the 1950s through the early 1970s.
Peter Jackson used the sounds of real artillery, as a combat veteran, it sounds just like a freight train.
I've seen lots of WWI footage, some colorized, but the 3D version is by far, the best, it takes you inside the trenches. The sequence where the British soldiers would run across no mans land, jump into a German trench, kill as many as they could then run back, all while being shelled, was amazing.
People should go and see this, to remind us of the folly of war, and those who are willing to waste 18-20 year old lives, for absolutely nothing. It also showed the human side of war, how the German POWs, would willingly carry litters of wounded without being ordered to.
What's really striking, is at the end when the British soldier said, we weren't needed after the war, no one would even hire a veteran, I thought, not much has changed.
