I’m an old man, in his late sixties, indulging in my love of literature and history, so I was instantly attracted to this book. Mainly because it was written by a woman now, about a woman, back when acknowledgment and recognition was virtually unheard off.
I also love poetry, so Shelley and Byron increased my curiosity but didn’t really influence my choice, mainly because I was aware of their bohemian ways and their self entitlement which was ignored then and still is to some extent, due to their undisputed talent.
So, after reading the first chapter, I was hooked. I soon realised I was surrounded by beautiful prose that told a story that gently unfolded before me.
It has been many years since I have been moved by any book… . This was such a treat, I had to limit myself to reading only a few chapters per day to extend my enjoyment.
Sadly, all good things must come to an end but at least now, I can re-read this masterpiece again and absorb the elements I might have missed.
Thank you so much Anne
