More importantly, there some valuable lesson we can draw from the story. For example, Paddy is an outstanding character. He was a white man but he had no discrimination. Instead, he encouraged Xuma to be self confident and said: "A man is a man first, and the colour comes after. This example can show us the need for philanthropy. Therefore, examining this novel can benefit all of us.
