Quite an enjoyable movie. Lovable characters, great animation, Engaging plot, and overall a great message as well as story. I love the fact that is explores the idea of different emotions. I’m still in Middle school. When I was around seven I went to watch this movie and felt a little uneasy. As a seven year old girl, I didn’t go any deeper. I just thought “huh that was a funny movie and a bit sad”. That’s one of the only problems I have with this movie.
It’s intended for a bit of an older demographic. It can come across as confusing for many young audiences. An increase in humor would have kept younger audiences engaged longer. I think that this movie has hit me like a Sharp blade moving forward. I rewatched the movie a couple months ago and it has affected me in a positive way. Being a student in a New school as well as having so much pressure to succeed and to act a certain way is stressful. Having this movie around feels self comforting. Specially not having any support from my parents or peers.
I saw a review stating that if “kids” have other emotions they are going to a mental asylum in the future and that kids should only be happy. This is probably the worst possible statement that could have ever walked the face of the earth. The movie was intended to show how these types of expectations can really hurt a kid’s or a person’s emotional stability. There’s nothing wrong with showing different emotions once in a while. Excessively being happy or sad can be a problem. We have different emotions for a reason, they’re all meant for different situations.
The movie’s soundtrack was delightful. It set a mood. Happiness and sadness mixed together. It fit the theme like a ring. I found Bing Bong’s to be such a lovable character. The character the design was very well done. Joy and sadness also have good character designs. The “cartoony” designs could keep younger audiences a bit more entertained. And Don’t even get me started on bing bong’s death and Joy’s realization and character development. I cried lakes.
Overall a great movie, it’s well done. I would give it a 4.5/5 just because of some slow parts there and there. The pacing was a bit off at times but everything else is on point. I recommend it 100%.
