For a movie that gives the impression of being fresh and original, it sure was derivative. It borrowed heavily from movies like the original Rollerball (circa 1975), Hellboy: The Golden Army and even Titanic. BTW, this really isn't a James Cameron movie. He participated in the screenplay. So don't get your heart set on Avatar level effects. Spoiler Alert: It leaves the audience hanging, with teases of a sequel or possibly a trilogy.
