I was so looking forward to Napoleon and came away utterly disappointed. Napoleon is known for his genius in battlefield tactics but this movie is 90% about his relationship with Josephine. I was expecting more coverage of his battles (61 in all) but they showed miserable clips from 3 battles, all of which the inaccuracies were overwhelming. I don't mind inaccuracies but when they are so blatant, don't even bother describing it as a battle that Napoleon engaged in. For example, the clips of Waterloo simply portrayed his cannons firing on the British on the high ground, followed by cavalry charging headlong uphill. Then the British march DOWN the hill to form squares to counter the cavalry. Then the French infantry move uphill to attack the British and then there is another infantry charge led by Napoleon up the hill. SUCH ridiculousness!! In reality, there was A LOT more going on in the battle, in reality, the British marched back behind the ridge they were sitting on to avoid cannon fire, and they were behind the ridge when they formed their squares. Also, you don't form squares in a straight line (like they did in the movie) to counter a calvary charge. You form squares diagonally to one another so the calvary has to move their horses amongst several squares where the British can infilade them from the angles of those squares. Then too, in reality Napoleon didn't lead ANY charges. He was too valuable a tactician determining the movement of infantry, cavalry, and cannons to endanger himself. I don't mind inaccuracies but this is so bad that it portrays Napoleon as an idiotic bumpkin who has no understanding of battle tactics. Then too, the acting is so bland it's very sad. I really wanted to like this movie but there isn't one redeeming element in this movie.
