Sharks in the coliseum? So many plot holes and retcons compared to the first film.

Not as good as Bruce Almighty as others will say. Steve Carell and Morgan Freeman give good performances and the child actors are better than most. The setting is stagnant for a large part of the film. My biggest problem with this movie however, is Wanda Sykes. Her dialogue is just unfunny sassy one-liners that get in the way of any emotional tone a scene tries to convey. Her character in this movie is not only pointless, but a hinderance to the enjoyment of the entire film. There's a pivotal scene in the movie that has unnecessary editing cutting to Sykes' character every minute to capture a cruddy one-liner.

This is a beautiful movie. I wasn't sure to watch it or not because of the bad reviews I read on here but I gave it a chance because it's Hugh Jackman. Fantastic film. The world building is great without giving boring narration. Exposition is left up to audience interpretation. The plot leaves you at the edge of your seat trying to figure out the mystery. The acting in some characters was weak at some parts, particularly with the antagonists of the story, but Hugh Jackman's badass line delivery more than made up for it. I didn't know of Lisa Joy, the director, before this but she did a great job writing this.
