First let me say I love John Grisham as a writer and usually enjoy his books til the end. This book not so much. I have found it to be very repetitive and not entertaining. It is almost monotonous to the reader. The case studies, while awful and concerning, follow the same pattern in each case: a waving of Miranda rights, a false confession, lies made by police, lie detector test results misrepresented and used against the charged, mis-identification by an eyewitness, prosecutorial misconduct, and on and on. Every case study is much the same.
Most Gresham books draw me back until I finish reading them, this one is disappointing and difficult to engage. It definitely exposes and covers uncomfortable treatment of the accused and for the most part, is dealing with subject matter we all do not want to be a part of. Out of sight, out of mind.
Maybe that is the point of it all!
