I don't usually write reviews, but this movie was just... disappointing for me. The woman, Harper is shown to be a very capable and smart woman, and resourceful. It's a movie that's supposed to be about her exacting revenge on her captors, but the ending was just gross, terrible and a disappointment, and only a result of plot convenience. The antagonists in this movie have so much freaking plot armor it's actually frustrating to watch, which is funny because usually it's the protagonists with the plot armor, but not this time.
Warning: Spoilers ahead.
I'll now get into what was disappointing and purely plot convenience. She is shown to obviously be a smart and capable person through the film, always a step ahead of her captors and setting up traps, etc. She's not really someone easy to fool or manipulate.
The film took a turn for the worst when she meets the sherif from before, and for some reason trusts him, like wtf? She's not an idiot, she would of put two and two together and realized he had something to do with her being captured when the guys found her right after she went to the station, and plus Ravener literally TELLS her that's how they got her. For some reason, she conveniently forgets all about this and trusts the guy, and is brought right back (of course, who could of seen that coming?!) This part was so annoying to watch. She was given plot induced stupidity and forgot the guy so they could capture her, so first huge example of plot armor for the antagonists because normally this would not happen.
I don't even want to get into the ending... the ending was quite frankly, gross, and uncomfortable to watch. But the dumbest part about it was what LED up to the ending. Even after this dude captures her, she was able to trick him into untying her, and she stole his gun. She literally had him dead to rights right there, and that would of been the end of it! But again, she for some reason, just stands there and doesn't shoot. This is annoying because it gives him the opportunity to drop down her boyfriend who he also conveniently had captured for this moment. Her not finishing him right then and there was the second example of the plot armor for the antagonists. Ravener had straight up plot armor because she easily could of finished him here. Plot induced stupidity...
She then... decides to get CLOSER to them to try to free her boyfriend, knowing Ravener is standing right freaking there! Like lady, you've been ahead of these guys the whole movie, and now you've lost your brains for basic survival priorities?! All she had to do was shoot Ravener there and then save her boyfriend, there, end of story and she gets her revenge and can go home, and this is what realistically, SHOULD have happened. But no. She gets closer to her boyfriend, forgetting Ravener is there, and of course she gets socked by the guy and loses his gun, and from there everything goes downhill for her.
It's really a shame, this movie started out good and I liked most of it, but the ending was just... so unforgivable and awful and completely betrays how her character was portrayed to be. It could of been so much better but they gave up at the ending.
