While not usually my cup of tea, Midsommar was a beautifully horrific film. I watched it with my friends as the beginning of what was meant to become a movie marathon. It was filled with symbolism and emotion in a way that left all of us both stunned and shocked. While many of us understood what the movie was when we began, it still affected us in such a way that we ended up not watching anything else from our list that night. In my own words, I hated it but it was amazing. That’s kind of the point though. It is meant to be horrific and shocking, but it is also so carefully crafted with the visual storytelling which spoke more than words. The parallelism in certain aspects goes to show just how much effort was put into its production. It really is a great movie, but maybe have a few lighthearted movies to follow it. And definitely do not watch it as the first movie in a “marathon.”
