I thought the art style was beautiful, but found the animation so lacking. They took absolutely every opportunity to not animate something they could. I felt basically the same way about the story: great themes with huge potential, but then it was told in the laziest way. Why was every character's backstory given in an exposition dump by a different character? And the two mains had no agency, they were just constantly maneuvered by more powerful forces. There were several times that a scene in an early episode served no purpose whatsoever except to be a mirror to a later scene that actually mattered -- that's not foreshadowing that's just self-plagiarism. I straight up fell asleep during the climax. Castlevania this is not.
