There are alot of good things about dead silence, the ambiance throughout the movie is creepy, there are lots of scary looking dolls, and the villian herself is terrifying. There are twists and turns that keep you on the edge of your seat throughout. However I think it would be better if they had given more attention to the hero of the story rather than ALL of the attention to the villian, which is what happens in this movie. There are more than plenty of scares, but the film as a whole isn't substantial. The two protagonists are very one dimensional. I also find the detective's humor throughout off-putting, like the writer didn't want to bother with actual dialogue so most of his lines are bad jokes or sarcasm, which in my opinion takes away from the scares. I'd recommend this movie

I'd describe this movie more as suspenseful than scary. There are some cool special effects (for the time). The story is believable for the most part, the pacing is good, and there is superb character development which gives the movie depth which it definitely needs. The first of a trilogy, this movie only gives you a taste of the evil to come...it focuses more on the family's attempts to find their daughter and understand what it is the other side wants with her with the help of numerous pyschics. I highly recommend this film, it is a fun and unique addition to the genre.

This movie is campy, scary, and addictive. The first time I saw it I rewatched it at least five times. I still watch it every year around halloween. Honestly the story is pretty boring, and the acting makes you feel like the characters are never in any real danger. But then you get to the villians, the alien killer klowns. And that makes up for it. The tall, colorful, caricaturesque klowns are terrifying and goofy at the same time. They wander the small town terrorizing it's citizens and causing mayhem, all while collecting their choice of food: humans turned to cotton candy. The whole premise is whacky, but it's a fun adventure. I definitely recommend!

I love natural disaster movies but this is by far one of the worst I've seen.
