I’m somewhat appalled by the negative reviews. Hillbilly Elegy is a gripping narrative of abuse, addiction, redemption and hope. Adam’s and Close have delivered outstanding performances in a well written and well directed film. Are some of the scenes violent? Yes. Hard to watch? Yes. However, life is often just that way. The reviewers would seem to want to change a true story and convert it suit their own vision of life in Appalachia. Very strange.
