It was really fun for a sale price, but for full price I would be quite upset. Mainly due to the characters, I really did not like them. And the short playtime. I had only 4 hours, compared to all others it’s almost 40% less as the others. The story has potential if it was not so obvious that it was all a fake out. The main antagonists were not that threatening, if you look at the Artstation of artists that worked on the game you see a lot of amazing assets that could’ve made the game more interesting as it was. The aesthetics were once again great though, the atmosphere was very well done. The cinematography was interesting due to the very nice compositions, but made the character movement more difficult.

The Dark Pictures: Man of Medan

Aesthetically I really liked the game, the monsters, the outfits, the streets, all pagan and witchcraft imagery, really really nice. Shame it ended like it did, I feel like it’s probably been said a million times by now, but there was sooooooo much potential in this game. All ingredients were there, they just pulled a rug under our feet at the last moment. The whole reincarnation angle they seemed to portray was really interesting, somehow being able to break this curse was the way I thought the game was progressing towards but alas, I was disappointed. My recommendation to Supermassive, focus more on one story in one game instead of telling multiple without payoff. Soundtrack was great, especially the Prologue. Give it a listen!

The Dark Pictures Anthology: Little Hope

GIVE IT A CHANCE!! The beginning of the game set it up as a cliche american invades Iraq story, which did not seem appealing to me at all. It was the last game we played in the Anthology. The aesthetic seemed a bit Indiana Jonesy, with a American war attached. BUT it soon all switched around when the monsters were revealed, the relationships deepened, with great character growth for most. The bond between the stubborn bigoted racist Jason and Salim, an iraq soldier, have turned out to be a true tale of how we all should turn out. The bond they get in the latter half is heartwarming. Two opposing sides with good hearts, working together to fight against a threat far bigger as themselves, their countries of origin etc. It feels like the writers, artists and all crew have truly worked together on this with a ton of passion. Good game! Recommend it

The Dark Pictures Anthology: House of Ashes

Genuine scares, music and atmosphere really well done. Story could be seen as cliche surface level, but once you dive deeper in and find all the clues it all puzzles into something quite interesting. The horror of it being based of the real serial killer, America’s first actually, makes it even more thought provoking. The thought of someone (the killer) idolizing such a man to that degree is truly something to behold. So for that alone great social commentary on how we look at these celebrity killers, like the Ted Bundys, Jeffrey Dahmers etc. Then there’s the characters, I found them all very like able, they all have redeeming qualities to them which makes it hard to hate any of them, which I really did in the previous games of the Anthology. This makes their deaths that can be your fault, even more devastating. Erin & Jamie were my favorites, they were funny and their relationship was really endearing. Kate was the Queen B**** of the group but her relationship and past traumas really deepen her beyond that stereotype. Charlie was a sympathetic older man with a failing business and an assumed lonely life, his growing relationship with his employees is nice to see, there’s much development, albeit subtle. His potential positive ending is a really nice conclusion for his character arc. Design of the “Dark Pictures” was really cool, the art focus on this game really spoke to me. Disturbing and eerie. A great conclusion to the Dark Pictures Season 1. Excited for the future
